For as long as I can remember, I have lived in the 45th Assembly District (AD) I was born and raised in Chavez Ravine, grew up in the Mission Junction area of Silver Lake, and have also resided in Echo Park, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, Atwater (before it was a village) and, now, in Mount Washington.

Beloved reader, we here at the august offices of the MWA Newsletter know which way the wind blows, and with the election (or infusion, if you will) of new management-y blood, the wind blows towards change. Of the many difficulties we face, there are three issues that demand immediate solution: (1) The website is not perfect. Sorry. Our bad. (2) Membership dues are difficult to extract with paper envelopes. Some sort of internet arrangement is required. See 1.

Take note, beloved friends, neighbors, and readers of all stripes. Arthur Z. Przebinda, a Mount Washington resident and wine enthusiast, writes a blog detailing his adventures exploring the keeping of a local vineyard and the making of wine. It can be found here. There is also a link to it on this site's handy-dandy Blog Page.

The Los Angeles County Democratic Party recently named MWA member Paul Ahrens "Democrat of the Year" in the 45th Assembly District. Paul received his award on August 27 at the Party's annual Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner at the Sheraton Hotel near Los Angeles International Airport. The entire Ahrens family attended the dinner. Paul's wife, Anne, beamed upon seeing his smiling face come up midway through the video tribute to all award recipients. Daughters Josie and Roberta cheered another photo which showed Paul at a rally. Paul's neighbors, Bill Rumble and Carol Jacques, joined the Ahrens Family at their table and cheered along with them.

Kevin De Leon represents Mount Washington along with a diverse swath of LA Country including Hollywood, Downtown LA, Pico-Union, parts of Pasadena, etc. He has been a presence here at many local events and his staff folks are often also in the ‘hood. Recently I caught up with Kevin and asked him, who, among his staff, is assigned to Mount Washington?

Exciting news! Figueroa is slated to get a bikeway running from Eagle Rock to Cypress Park, and of course the very popular bike store Flying Pigeon (located next to La Abeja restaurant on Figueroa) is spearheading the efforts to organize the public input and suggestions.

It has been a while since we pitched the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program; I don’t know about you but in hearing about the earthquakes on the “other side” of the US I thought of my need to re-check the emergency supplies and refresh my knowledge of preparedness.

Just how much does the Highland Park/Mount Washington community support the Friends of Southwest Museum Coalition?
That very question led to a brief debate during a 'Friends' meeting at the Highland Park Ebell Club on Wednesday night, which ended in Mount Washington Association President Rob Schraff being ejected.
