This year the Jack Smith Trail Walk falls on May 1st as we celebrate 16 years of getting a springtime tune-up hike while fondly remembering former resident Jack Smith, the Los Angeles Times columnist who wrote with wry humor about life, the English language and his observances of Mount Washington.

After 50 years, thanks to your support, the Mount Washington Association will continue to do our best for our community, our environment and our kids. Our finances continue to be healthy. But, as always, we need your help. First, remember to renew your membership. Second, and just as importantly, help us make sure that every dollar we spend goes to a cause worthy of our support.

The MWA's food and household goods drop-off project was very successful. Thank you to each person who contributed to this drive at a time when there are so many local citizens in need.

The main event at the January meeting is going to be a slide show by the MWA Community Garden Group. They will give us a pictorial of a neighborhood front yard that is being turned into a garden. They will also give us an update on what you should be planting now; and some free goodies, like seeds. Connie Rohman, who is a volunteer for the new and exciting front yard garden, will share the fun she is having. Come and learn.

Learning about organic composting, trick-or-treating in City Hall, visiting Fluffy the Snake while on regular field trips to the Audubon Center, and literally learning to walk! These are a few of the memorable moments that our infants, toddlers, and preschoolers enjoyed this year.

There's a small revolution going on in Mount Washington. Like others before it, the revolution involves pitchforks and shovels, rocks and boards, blood and bone. But the staging grounds are front yards and backyards, patios and terraces, balconies and decks.

On Saturday December 4th, the Mount Washington Association, coordinated by Maria Gray, sponsored a food collection to be distributed by the NE Mental Health and Wellness Clinics to our needy neighbors.
There weren’t a lot of donors who showed up, but those who did contribute were very GENEROUS!!!
