New Supermarkets Serving Mt. Washington
While the Albertson’s on Ave. 45 & Figueroa has been shut for some time, and we’ve just learned that the Albertson’s on Eagle Rock Blvd will also close, we do have some good news regarding new markets opening nearby.
Committee members have been in contact with Superior Markets, due to reopen a new supermarket at the Ave. 45 & Figueroa site, and renovations are currently underway. Expected opening date is around September.
Super King Market has opened in the old Ralphs Market site on San Fernando Road, and so far, it has received pretty enthusiastic reviews from our neighbors. The owner Fermanian Family is interested in hearing more from community members as to what we would like to see in the store, in case there is something particular you are not finding there. Also, they invite you to attend their Grand Opening Friday, 7/30 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at 2716 San Fernando Road. There'll be music, entertainment, samples from food vendors, and lots more.
"Rancho Verde Supermarket" has quickly replaced "Super Discount Market" at 5914 Monterey Road (corner of Ave. 60) in Hermon this week, and had a "soft" re-opening yesterday under new ownership. Internal refurbishing has been going on for most of the past week and continues after hours; management has even replaced the infamous decades-old flooring.
And finally, don’t forget the new Highland Park Certified Farmers Market now operating every Tuesday afternoon at the Ave. 57 Gold Line station parking lot. Please stop by the market for fresh, field-ripened, high quality produce from local farmers and spend time with your friends, neighbors and other community members. The Highland Park Certified Farmers Market is located adjacent to the Highland Park Gold Line station at Marmion Way between Ave. 57 & 58 and operates Tuesdays from 3-8 pm. Visit the market website at http://www.oldla.org. Also visit http://www.its.caltech.edu/~sbudick to see where your produce is coming from!
