SRF Plans Earthquake Retrofit

Self-Realization Fellowship has announced that they have selected Pfeiffer Partners architects to begin planning for an earthquake and life-safety retrofit of their historic International Headquarters Building on San Rafael Avenue. Originally constructed in 1908 as the Mt. Washington Hotel, the SRF Headquarters Building was officially designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2007.

Pfeiffer Partners have been architects for some of the most important retrofit projects in Los Angeles, including the Griffith Park Observatory and the Los Angeles Central Library. On the SRF project they will be consulting on historic issues with Drisko Studios and Historic Resources Group. The goals of the retrofit will be to strengthen the building against earthquake damage, improve fire suppression and alarm systems, address handicapped accessibility issues and replace dated mechanical systems. No additional facilities are being created as a part of the project.
