17th annual self-guided auto tour of artists’ homes and studios in Highland Park , Eagle Rock and Mount Washington. Over 100 artists and artisans will open their homes and studios on this popular tour.

When: November 22, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Starts at the Lummis Home, 200 E. Avenue 43, Highland Park , CA 90031

Big Sunday on Saturday at La Casita Verde

As part of the Big Sunday program of volunteer projects, La Casita Verde is hosting a cleanup of the surrounding sidewalks and parking lot on the morning of May 2. The clean up area includes the walkway above Figueroa bordering LCV, the Casa de Adobe, and the apartments in our area, and the small parking lot next to the Southwest Museum Gold Line station. A play yard is available for families with small children, (but obviously one parent would need to supervise, if we are all working!). And snacks will be on hand to keep the volunteers energized.

La Casita Verde Child Care Center, Local Historic Monument and Child Care Center, Undergoes Renovations

La Casita Verde Child Care Center, operated in the stately Ziegler Estate at 4601 No. Figueroa in the Sycamore Grove/Highland Park area of Los Angeles, has had some much needed maintenance work to keep this historic monument in good shape. The center has had sidings repaired, been totally repainted inside and out, and has had floors refinished. Outside the fences are freshly repainted and the beautiful awnings replaced.

Marmion Way Beautification Team, May 3

On May 3, the new Marmion Way
Beautification Team will begin meetings as part of a Community
Beautification Neighborhood Matching Grant to clean-up,
plant street trees and uncover historic stone walls.

Last month we had a fantastic turn-out of over 50 volunteers
and we hope to see many of you again.. We will meet at 9
am on Marmion Way near Figueroa St and then we will be
working our way northerly. We will be targeting litter
and invasive weeds and working to trim vines away from a
historic stone wall. Bring gloves and wear a hat if you

SRF Plans Earthquake Retrofit

Self-Realization Fellowship has announced that they have selected Pfeiffer Partners architects to begin planning for an earthquake and life-safety retrofit of their historic International Headquarters Building on San Rafael Avenue. Originally constructed in 1908 as the Mt. Washington Hotel, the SRF Headquarters Building was officially designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2007.
