Minutes of the September MWA General Membership Meeting
President Rob Schraff called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.
Pilar Buelna regarding the MW Elementary School Pancake Breakfast on 9/24 from 8 to 10:30 AM.
Jerry Schneider regarding the re-emergence of the Million Trees Initiative. For details, see Jerry. Continue to fight the incursion of the "Tree of Heaven."
Kai Newkirk, City Council District 14 representative, introduced himself and promoted the Eagle Rock Music Festival of October 1.
Lynelle Escudo, City Council District 1 representative, introduced herself and promoted the Lummis Home Magic Show, to be held on October 1, from 6 to 9 PM, at the Lummis House.
Lynette Kampe spoke regarding the Theodore Payne Foundation Plant Sale of October 7.
Presentation on "Crime in Mount Washington"
LAPD Officers Roman and Fernando Ochoa spoke on the subject. They reviewed the recent crimes in the neighborhood. They urged residents to organize more Neighborhood Watch groups and to use phone trees for contacting their neighbors. They urged a "common sense" approach to coping with crime and signing up for "epolicing" at LAPDOnLine.org
Discussion on the MW Dr. Bulkhead Proposed Mural
Connie and Keith Rohman, parents of Jack Rohman, spoke to the group, indicating their support of the mural, and asking that the MWA consider supporting the mural.
Zach Christiansen and Robert Sipchen introduced themselves and the mural they propose to create:
- "A memorial project for Jack Rohman"
- "Not overtly about Jack Rohman"
- 52 panels covering the MW Dr. bulkheads
- No application yet submitted
- Privately funded
- To be protected by an anti-graffiti coating
- To be maintained by Zach Christiansen
- No results, to date, from a MW Homeowners Alliance member survey of opinions regarding the mural

Members asked questions of the speakers.
A discussion followed the Question and Answer period.
Eliot Sekuler moved that "The Mt. Washington Association support this mural project, in principle, with appropriate City review." The motion was seconded and passed:
