Lummis Home in Great Disrepair

El Alisal is a magical home built along the banks of the Arroyo Seco at a time when the Far West was still alive and kicking. Inside, standing in the coolness of its massive walls and concrete floors, I have always been reminded of another house, also a museum, on the island of Capri: the Villa San Michele. Perhaps because both were built by intense, charismatic writers who lived life fully in their own adventurous way. Though the Italian villa has been well maintained over the last century, this is sadly not true for the Lummis House, which is in serious disrepair…
There has clearly been a lack of action and funding for too many years now, and if we let this go on, the original site will be lost forever.
